For many people a Lupin is 'the' classic cottage garden plant, with fantastic spires chock full of flowers standing proudly over lush clumps of green palm-like foliage.  'Blossom' PBR is a wonderful example of a modern Lupin, producing chunky flower heads around 15cm wide, white flushed with sugar-mouse pink.

Flowering in May through June, its strong architectural form is perfect for a mixed border, helping to disguise early spring bulb foliage as it dies down, before itself giving way to later perennials.  For contrast try combining it with more delicate flowers and foliage such as Geranium himalayense 'Derrick Cook', or for extra punch Papaver orientale 'Snow Goose'.  Beloved by bumble-bees, it thrives in a reasonable to poor soil in either sun or partial shade.
