Mostly grown for its striking evergreen foliage - small pale grey-green leaves deliciously edged in cream - 'Tasmanian Tiger' is said to resemble a tiger's stripes. Well perhaps in moonlight. But in late May clusters of creamy bracts open, each with a green centre, adding to the display.
Native to dry mediterranean scrubland and craggy slopes, it needs a free-draining soil and full sun to thrive. Perfect for adding year round interest and structure to a hot dry gravel garden, it would also brighten up any winter container in a sunny spot.
Beware, its sap is a skin irritant.
