'Chelsea Star' is much sought after for the particularly rich and deep shade of its intense violet-blue flowers, each neatly set off with a pure white bee.  These start to open in midsummer from dark blue buds held away from the slender stems, opening slowly upwards to create chunky, ramrod straight flower spikes over mounds of deeply cut green foliage.

They bring the party to a mid to late summer border, adding bold vertical punctuation and intense colour - use them to lead the eye around the garden.  Much beloved by bees and other pollinators, 'Chelsea Star' combines brilliantly with LEUCANTHEMUM, ROSA and LUPINUS for a quintessential cottage garden look.  They do best in full sun in a fertile, moist but free-draining soil, that does not dry out completely in the summer.
