Kniphofia is a great 'go-to' plant for injecting colour into the garden from very late summer into early autumn when earlier season flowering plants are starting to fade. As its name suggests 'Scorched Corn's' spikes are a delicious graduation from younger tawny-orange flowers at their tip fading to a more mature creamy white at the base, all held high on tall sturdy stems above clumps of narrow evergreen foliage.
Easy to grow and versatile, this cottage garden stalwart will also grow happily by the coast, whilst its nectar-rich flowers make it a shoe-in for a wildlife garden. It needs a spot in full sun in a rich, moist but free draining soil to thrive.
