During early summer large cup-shaped purply red flowers with gorgeous satin-like frilly edged petals appear, each petal has a distinctive black blotch at its base. The flowers stand above tufts of leafy green foliage at the base of this perennial, normally this foliage will die away after flowering and reappear in early autumn.
Perfect for pollinators, 'Bolero' should be planted towards the middle of your border in any reasonably fertile, moderately moist but well-drained soil, preferably in full sun. A superb plant for cottage gardens and cutting gardens alike.
