Well-named for the large clusters of starry purplish-red flowers that hover above mounds of deep purple succulent foliage like moody stormy clouds, ‘Thunderhead’ really draws the eye. Opening in very late summer the blooms last well into autumn before forming attractive seed heads - a valuable food source for birds in the winter. Avoid cutting it back in the late autumn as it looks magical touched by the frost.
A wonderful candidate for a gravel garden or front of a mixed dry border, it thrives in full sun in a fertile, free draining soil.
