Commonly known as 'Mexican Evening Primrose', its delicate flowers are arranged in circles or whorls around the tips of very upright reddish-green stems and pointed green foliage. Individual flowers open a delicious tangerine orange before fading to red, creating a multi-tonal effect not unlike a sunset on each spike. Make sure you plant it with backlight for the full effect.
This exotic looking bushy perennial is perfect for a 'hot' themed border combined with dark reds and purples, but also makes a striking specimen plant for a container. Regular deadheading will encourage it to flower all summer long. Easy to grow, it prefers a reasonable, well-drained soil in full sun.
