Blechnum penna-marina subsp. alpinum
Height x Spread: 10cm x 30cm
New skeletal backbone-like fronds are initially flushed bronze before turning a glossy gleaming green. This compact fern will spread slowly but surely to form a crowded multi-tonal carpet in the right conditions and can successfully suppress weeds.
It is ideal for reliably damp and shady areas of a garden, especially woodland planting schemes. Commonly known as the alpine water fern, it appreciates a consistently moist soil and will not stand being dried out. An excellent and interesting plant for the shade.
