Description

Polystichum setiferum (Divisilobum Group) 'Herrenhausen'

Height & Spread 50-100 cm x 50-100 cm

Sometimes called the Soft Shield Fern, this elegant, semi-evergreen fern is highly prized for its intricately cut fronds which are soft to the touch but not as delicate as they look.

Fully hardy in the UK, this plant is not even bothered very cold winters and will continue to look wonderful all year. Preferring a moist but well-drained position in part shade to deep shade, this plant will establish quickly in almost any soil type except that which becomes waterlogged. If it does get squashed by heavy snow, the damaged fronds may break but a new batch will emerge undaunted in the spring. Remove old brown or damaged fronds gently in the spring.

Fantastic for woodland gardens, Victorian stumperies and underplanting larger shrubs and trees, this plant is of no interest to rabbits, deer or snails
