Description

Height x Spread: 60cm x 50cm

Commonly known as 'Moor-witch',  this compact, tufted grass has upright, linear foliage and slender purple-black flowerheads that stand up straight on narrow stems. Foliage slowly turns pale orange-brown in winter.

It makes a great architectural foil for other plants in a border. Plant it in drifts to mimic prairie planting or as spot plants in a gravel garden. It will pay you back tenfold in the winter, its tawny foliage standing tall, picked out in frost. Remove faded foliage and stems in late winter, before fresh foliage emerges. It thrives in any moderately fertile, free draining soil that retains moisture in full sun or light shade
