Description

Panicum virgatum 'Heavy Metal'

Height x Spread: 120cm x 100cm

A clump forming, fine bladed, upright grass, that is metallic blue green in summer and golden yellow in autumn. Tiny spikelet flowers that give the plant a soft, airy look are produced in autumn.

Grow in full sun in any moist but well drained or free draining soil. This grass has an upright tufted habit which is great for adding sound, movement and texture to a planting scheme.

Cut back any old growth in spring. Once established, the plants can be lifted and divided in spring. As with most grasses, the divisions should be taken from around the outer edge of the clump as these will establish more reliably.

Ideal for use in city, courtyard, cottage, informal, gravel, prairie and wildlife gardens as well as beds and borders.

Drought tolerant once established.
