We're delighted to be supplying new designer, Mike Lote, with some of the plant material for his debut show garden 'It Doesn't Have To Cost the Earth' at RHS Malvern Spring Festival. 9 - 12 May 2024

It doesn't have to cost the earth

The garden will combine native species and a modern naturalistic approach with more sophisticated planting in sultry shades. The deep pigments and earthy tones echo and compliment the palette of naturally inspired contemporary and reclaimed materials within the garden such as the tumbled stone and weathered patinas, creating a tapestry of character. These shades are interspersed with vibrant colour not only stylistically but to encourage birds and insects.

Much of the beauty along with innovations are below ground as well as above, in the construction methods adopted and with conservation in mind, utilising materials previously unseen at RHS shows. The garden is being created with minimal disruption to the earth, focusing on soil health and building biodiversity to help grow a healthy strong garden and enhance nature.

With this year’s show theme of ‘Gardening for change’ and celebrating evolution in the world of horticulture, the 2024 festival seeks to inspire a new wave of green-fingered individuals, equip visitors with knowledge of resilient gardening techniques and to celebrate gardening and community initiatives. This debut garden has commitment to sustainability and the environment at its core, embracing an achievable approach with ideas and learnings that people can take home.

Following the show, the garden will be repurposed for Woodoaks Farm – which is owned by the Soil Association Land Trust.
