Aster thomsonii

This is a sturdy, clump-forming perennial with grey-green foliage. Flowering from August to October, bright lavender-purple petals surround a central disc of yellow that darkens to red once pollinated. The flowers are large - up to  5cm across. 

Performs best when planted in free-draining, or moisture retentive free-draining, neutral to alkaline soil in full sun.

Attractive to pollinators including bees and butterflies, and ideal for use as a cut flower. It can also be incorporated into wildlife, coastal, cottage, informal, city and courtyard gardens.
