Centaurea montana Purple

Height x Spread: 45cm x 60cm

This form of perennial Cornflower has deep green lance-shaped leaves. At the top of upright stems stunning purple cornflowers with tubular petals appear from late spring into summer.

The ideal planting situation for Centaurea montana is in full sun to partial shade with free draining soil. A great plant for coastal gardens as it is tolerant of salty conditions. Cornflowers are perfect for a cottage garden setting and their flowers also cut well for floral arrangements. After flowering the plant may begin to look untidy, cut it back hard to encourage fresh foliage and a second flush of flower.
