This plant has clusters of large two-lipped white or cream flowers which resemble turtleheads hence the common name. White Turtlehead has toothed lance-shaped, dark green leaves covering its upright stems.
Perfect for naturalistic planting schemes, this Chelone which flowers from late summer into early autumn can grow in partial shade or sunny conditions and in any reasonable, but fairly moist soil. It has attractive seed heads which can be left to provide additional winter interest.
The seeds can be an irritant, so direct contact with these should be avoided.
