Crocosmia × crocosmiiflora 'Star of the East'

Height x Spread:  100cm x 50cm

Bred over 100 years ago, 'Star of the East' remains popular for its sprays of fabulous, very large clear orange flowers that open wide from dark orange buds above bright green sword-like leaves.

Striking and architectural, it definitely draws the eye and is perfect for injecting late summer colour into a 'hot' planting scheme but also combines brilliantly with blues, purples and whites for a cooler themed vibe.  One to consider for a cutting garden too, as the flowers last well in display.  This veritable bee magnet thrives in a sheltered site in full sun or dappled shade in light, free draining soil.  Mulch in autumn if your winters are cold and leave any division of congested colonies until the spring.
