Description

Cuphea ignea 'Roxy'

Height x Spread: 30cm x 30cm

Sun or Part shade, well drained soil.

Hailing from Mexico the Cuphea is, in hotter climates, a year-round producer of nectar rich flowers that attract hummingbirds and butterflies. In the UK it is an evergreen tender perennial, which can be grown in a container or planted outside as an annual.

This small form has attractive reddish pink tubular flowers with lilac tinged lips, from mid-Summer into Autumn and the first frosts. The leaves are dark green, glossy and lance shaped.

Give it full sun and well-drained soil of any pH. If grown in containers it can be moved to a bright, frost free site to over Winter. A conservatory or greenhouse would be ideal.

The appearance of this plant makes it ideal for inclusion in Jungle or Tropical style gardens as well as city, courtyard, coastal, informal, wildlife and cottage garden styles. Its ability to thrive in the heat make it ideal for growing in front of south facing walls or fences.
