Description

Hylotelephium telephium 'Sunkissed' PBR

Height x Spread: 50-100cm x 10-50cm

This clump forming herbaceous perennial ticks many boxes when it comes to useful attributes like drought tolerance, low maintenance and benefits to wildlife. The plant emerges from ground level buds in early Spring and has succulent stems and leaves in olive green. The flowers open in Summer, continuing into Autumn and are yellow and white from green buds.  They are a magnet for butterflies and bees.

Best in a sunny spot in neutral to alkaline, free draining soil. This plant is fully hardy in the UK as long as it's not left sitting in prolonged Winter wet. The sap of this plant can be an irritant to some so protect your skin while handling it. The flower clusters are profuse, nectar rich, and heavy sometimes causing the stems to fall outwards under the weight. The easy solution is to cut each stem back by half at the end of May, giving the added bonus of shorter more stable stems and twice as many flowers. Spent flower stems can be cut back but leaving them in place will provide Winter food for birds from the drying seed heads. Established plants can be divided in early Spring

Ideal for gravel, city, courtyard, wildlife, coastal, cottage and informal gardens. It will also adapt happily to life in large containers.

With the issues surrounding climate change, water shortages and declining numbers of pollinators and birds, this plant and its family can only become more important to gardeners in the future.
