Paeonia 'Julia Rose'

Height & Spread: 50-100cm x 50-100cm

The flowers of ‘Julia Rose’ open from cherry red beds to a deep pink which fades to apricot and lemon. Each plant produces many buds so you could end up with flowers of different colours all at the same time. The deeply dissected leaves provide the perfect foil for the flowers, initially bronzy red in spring they darken to deep green and then revert to red in autumn.

This Peony is an ITOH intersectional hybrid, a herbaceous peony crossed with a tree peony, giving us a shorter plant with a much longer flowering period than a normal herbaceous peony, it is therefore ideal for those of us with smaller gardens.

Shallow planting is the key, they do best in humus rich, fertile soil that is moist but well-drained, in full sun or partial shade. They have no preference for a particular pH but make sure the site is sheltered, as strong winds can damage the large flowers.

Remove spent stems after flowering and cut the plant down after the foliage colour has gone in Autumn.

Ideal for sheltered spaces in city, courtyard, cottage and informal gardens and also a great cut flower.

Paeonia can be extremely harmful if consumed.
