Kniphofia caulescens

This South African native is commonly known as caulescent red hot poker. At the base of the short stout stems arching linear leaves are a green/grey colour. Tubular flowers start orange and fade to yellow during summer. Kniphofia caulescens has a tufted growth habit.
When planting this firecracker of a plant, in the middle of your border choose a sunny spot with a well-drained soil. Red hot pokers work extremely well in hot colour themed borders and are also useful for adding strong architectural elements to your planting schemes. Coastal and gravel gardens are ideal for this perennial.
