Thin tapering leaves form a mound of foliage beneath the pink pea-like flowers which appear in spring. Lathyrus vernus is commonly known as Spring Vetchling.
Open woodland situations and under planting of deciduous shrubs are perfect for this perennial which flourishes in partial shade - it will also grow happily in a sunny spot. A perfect plant for adding early colour to your flower beds and borders, it ideally requires a humus-rich, moist but free-draining soil.
All parts of the plant are toxic.
