One of the prettiest Penstemon around, 'Lilac and Burgundy' is very elegant with lilac bell flowers, each boldly marked with a burgundy and white striped throat over green dagger-like foliage.
Its willowy form looks beautiful weaving through a border, its long lasting colour acting as a foil and highlight for other colours, a strong team player. Try it with Persicaria affinis 'Donald Lowndes' and Achillea 'Ruby Wine' for a delicious ice cream combination.
It is happiest in any good soil that is free draining in either sun or light shade. Do not be tempted to cut it back until after the spring frosts have finished, when it can be cut back hard to the ground.
