Ever so delicate and graceful, this 'false indigo' form carries full spikes of pure white flowers from mid to late summer that resemble a flutter of butterflies hovering over fresh green pea-like foliage.  As the flowers fade they form dark dangling seed pods, extending their period of interest in the garden and offering a valuable source of food to birds.

Though hard to find, it is actually easy to grow in any very sunny, free draining soil and with time becomes resistant to periods of drought.  Attractive on its own, it is useful for adding delicate highlights to a perennial border lifting surrounding colours and lightening the composition.  A strong candidate for a white garden, make room for it too in your cutting garden as it lasts well in arrangements.
