This charming Saxifraga forms small cushions of tightly packed yellowy-green rosettes from which tall gently bowing red stems appear in early summer carrying delicate lemon yellow flowers.
Slowly creeping in habit, lutea makes an interesting and unusual choice of groundcover for any sunny and reasonably free draining soil that is not completely dry, but it does take time to bulk up. It is very at home growing and gently spilling out of cracks in rock walls or planted along the edge of a gravel path. Bees are mad for its nectar rich flowers.
