If you are looking for something special to light up your winter garden, Helleborus orientalis 'Magic Double Picotee' may fit the bill.  Its blooms are simply gorgeous.  Each is formed from three layers of elegant petals with delicate dark veining that encircle a central boss of pale lime green stamens, like a gently ruffled cravat. 

Flowering from December to March, these are produced in a range of soft colours from whites and creams to dusky pinks that glow against its lush evergreen foliage.  Happiest in part shade to shade in a free draining non-acidic soil, it is a 'must-have' for a north facing bed or winter container, its leaves acting as a foil throughout the year for later flowering plants.

Irritant to the skin, harmful if eaten.
