Description

Phlox paniculata Purple Eye Flame ('Barthirtythree'PBR) (Flame Series)

Height x Spread: 60cm x 50cm

This herbaceous perennial is a magnet for bees, butterflies and moths due to its nectar rich flowers. Its compact and bushy habit make it perfect for the front or middle of a bed or border. Mid green, lance shaped leaves on upright stems are topped, in late summer, by heads of scented purple flowers with an attractive white eye.

Originating in the USA, this plant is suited to any soil type as long as it is moist but well drained and in a sunny or part sun position. Phlox should be deadheaded regularly to encourage the development of new flowers.

Ideal for wildlife, cottage and courtyard gardens and can happily be grown in pots of containers. It also makes a splendid cut flower.

Good companion plants include shorter grasses like Stipa tenuissima also Gaillardia, Coreopsis, Achillea, Ageratina, Sidalcea and Selinum.
