Plants are dispatched in growing condition and may not be in full flower. If too tall to pack safely, we may cut them back — this helps them establish more quickly. Read our Mail Order FAQs.
Tall, branching spikes of deep indigo-purple flowers are borne on purple stems clothed with mid-green foliage from late summer into autumn. A superb late-season salvia that extends the border season when many other plants are winding down.
An excellent container plant combined with tawny orange or white Dahlias, or plant it in a border with Verbena bonariensis and vivid red Dahlia for a striking late-summer combination. Note that it emerges late from the ground — mark its position in spring and do not crowd it out. Do not cut down until after the last frosts. Best in full sun in a light, moderately fertile, well-drained soil.
