Description

Actaea simplex (Atropurpurea Group) 'Black Negligee'

Height x Spread: 135cm x 80cm

'Black Negligee' is highly sought after for both its very dark, almost black deeply divided foliage and the willowy bottle-brush spikes of fluffy white scented flowers that rise majestically above it in September and October.

The wait until autumn for the flowers is completely offset by the mounds of delightful fern-like foliage that develop during the summer, creating the perfect dark foil for other plants in your border.  Although said to be rabbit resistant, butterflies love its nectar rich flowers.  It thrives in partial shade in a cool, nutrient rich soil, that is moist but free draining, but it does needs extra watering during drier periods of weather during the growing season.
