Description

Height x Spread: 150cm x 100cm

Aptly named for the striking cream horizontal bands that dissect its lush mid-green foliage, 'Zebrinus' continues to be a reliable garden favourite.  Gently arching and architectural in form, in a hot summer it will produce silky tassel-like flowers that along with the foliage will fade to buff-silver in autumn, remaining upright throughout the winter.

Easy to grow in full sun in any fairly fertile, reasonably free-draining soil, Gertrude Jekyll is said to have used it extensively at Munstead Wood to illuminate slightly shadier areas of the garden.  Like other Miscanthus it has sharp leaves so wear gloves when handling.  Remember to cut back hard the old foliage in late winter before any new shoots starts to emerge.  Perfect for the back of a mixed border or an exotic planting theme, it combines brilliantly with reds, burnt oranges and whites.
