Symphyotrichum novi-belgii 'Davey's True Blue'

Height x Spread:  120cm x 60cm

'Davey's True Blue' certainly lives up to its name.  Each individual flower sports a wide ruff of deep lavender blue narrow petals that encircle a golden yellow centre, a delicious and complementary colour combination that draws the eye in a long flowering display from September into October.

Enhance it further by combining it with the bold yellows and oranges of Rudbeckia  and Kniphofia or for a softer mix the pinks of Hesperantha, all with a generous dose of ornamental grasses such as Molinia and Calamagrostis.  Although it picks well for flower arranging, wait until the spring to cut it back hard as the faded flower heads look beautiful touched by frost. To get the best from this hardy perennial, plant it in a fertile, reasonable soil in the sun or light shade.
