Description

Height x Spread:  50cm x 75cm

With its clusters of delicate nodding flowers of soft blue and white over clumps of hairy mid green leaves, this form of comfrey is a good candidate for any shady spot or wildlife area in the garden.  The late spring floral display reliably draws in the pollinators whilst the robust evergreen foliage will clump up and spread, ruthlessly suppressing the weeds as it goes.

In its ideal growing conditions, a moist soil in partial to full shade its enthusiastic ground covering skills can be held in check by removal of any unwanted plants in spring.  Nothing goes to waste though, the leaves can be used to make a concentrated liquid fertiliser.  It combines particularly well with finer foliage shade loving plants such as ferns and Hakonechloa.
