Thalictrum Chantilly Lace ('Mactha002')

Height x Spread:  30cm x 25cm

Unashamedly pretty and delicate, in early summer 'Chantilly Lace' produces masses of large single pale purple flowers each highlighted by a centre of pale lime stamens like eyelashes on a neat compact plant.  The sense of lightness is further enhanced by the fine aquilegia-like foliage, which makes a wonderful foil for spring bulbs before its own flowers appear.

This new introduction for 2020 underlines the continuing popularity of Thalictrum and was one of our entries for RHS Plant of the Year at the cancelled 2020 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.  Its preference for a humus-rich, reasonable soil and part shade reveals the origin of this Genus as a woodland plant.  Plant in large groups or drifts for a delicious haze of colour that will lighten any backdrop of green and draw the eye.  Or combine it with lime greens and cool whites in a container for a north or east facing terrace.

Please note that  'Chantilly Lace's ' is summer deciduous, and after flowering its foliage will die back only to reappear again in spring.  It is a good idea to mark where you have planted it to avoid digging it up by accident..
