If you are looking for something eye-catching to attract bees to a shadier part of the garden, take a look at Tiarella 'Emerald Ellie'. From late spring into summer, it clumps up reliably to put on a striking display of attractively cut foliage, each leaf boasting bold inner maroon markings edged in fresh green, from which slender stems emerge carrying clusters of fluffy star-like white flowers.
Perfect for a woodland garden lining a path or underplanting deciduous trees, they perform best in part shade - morning sun in preference to afternoon sun - but also flower in full shade. A great plant for a container on the northern or eastern side of a house too as it is evergreen in milder winters and will thrive in a free draining soil with some moisture.
