Description

Helleborus × sternii 'Tom'

Other - This plant is available in a 12cm pot.

Height x Spread:  45cm x 45cm

Similar in appearance to Helleborus x sternii 'Flame', 'Tom' is distinguished by the larger size of its individual deep dusky pink flowers flushed with pale green set off by vivid lime stamens.  Opening in midwinter from pink buds, these are carried in clusters on proudly upright stems over clumps of neat leather-like mid green toothed leaves with paler green veining.

Able to tolerate sunnier conditions than many Helleborus cultivars due to its hybrid parental genes from Helleborus argutifolius, its architectural year round form has many uses in the garden.  Naturally a good choice for a winter garden perhaps combined with Ophiopogon nigrescens, Epimedium and ornamental grasses for contrast, it works well in a partially shaded woodland setting too providing a valuable source of winter and early spring nectar for bees.  It prefers a moist but free draining non-acidic soil.

Irritant to the skin, harmful if eaten.
